A better healthcare model
Why choose Beacon for your physical therapy needs?
No physician referrals.
Physical therapy is a direct access service, meaning you can receive an initial evaluation and treatment without physician’s referral. Studies show that this leads to improved outcomes, increased patient satisfaction, lowered healthcare costs, and faster treatment.
One-on-one care. Every time.
We are a small team with no assistants, aides, or interns. You won’t be handed off between therapists, and you’ll receive undivided attention and full focus from your therapist.
No insurance authorizations.
We don’t bill insurance because we don’t want to let it dictate your care. This means you are free from insurance paperwork, delayed pre-authorizations, denied claims, and arbitrary treatment plan restrictions.
“Kelsi is amazing at every facet of her job, and always goes above and beyond! She is personable, kind, professional, has extensive knowledge, and truly cares about the people she helps. I’m a martial artist and ultimate frisbee athlete, and it’s great that she can understand exactly where I’m coming from and recommend treatments that will still fit into my training. She has directly and indirectly helped me with both in-the-moment and long term injuries, and I’m extremely grateful for her.”

Frequently Asked Questions
-
In short: as short or as long as needed. With that said, our evaluations tend to be ~60-90 minutes and our treatment sessions range from ~45 to 75 minutes depending on your specific needs.
-
The number of sessions varies for each individual based on the nature of your condition and your personal goals. After your initial assessment, we'll work together to create a customized treatment plan outlining the expected number of sessions.
Most people and most conditions end up needing ~4-6 visits at varied frequencies.
-
Absolutely! While we specialize in working with athletes and active individuals, we also provide comprehensive care for a variety of populations, ages, and activity levels. Our goal is to help you return to the activities you love, whether those are related to a sport, gardening, playing with your kids, or an other movement-related activity.
-
We treat a wide range of orthopedic and neuromuscular conditions, including muscle strains, joint pain, post-surgical rehabilitation, chronic pain, and mobility issues. If you aren’t sure if physical therapy is right for your concerns, get in touch and we’ll discuss options with you for free.
-
We ask for at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. This allows us to accommodate other clients who may need an appointment. However, we will work with clients on a case-by-case basis as problems arise.
-
In almost all cases, yes. We'll work with you to modify your activities as needed to support your recovery while keeping you active.

We are a private pay clinic, meaning we do not directly participate with any insurance companies. That said, many insurance companies do offer out-of-network benefits. You can call the number on the back of your insurance card to inquire about your out-of-network PT benefits. We can provide you with an invoice which you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement.
-
Being out-of-network means that insurance companies cannot dictate the care we are able to give you. Given that they do not have a license to practice health care and that they are not qualified to make healthcare decisions, we prefer that they stay out of the decision making process when it comes to your care.
Insurance companies also often require very specific things for coverage, such as: a referral from a specific provider, a prior authorization, or other pre-requisite to receiving care. This causes delays in you receiving the care that you need, and can prolong injury and dysfunction.
Insurance companies also do not cover for services such as: health or wellness based services, return to sport training, performance based services, dry needling, and many others. This can result in denials in coverage, hidden fees, and big bills.
Denials of coverage often result in exaggerated bills in the $300-700+ range because this is what traditional clinics charge insurance companies to be able to get an appropriate reimbursement rate. This means, if they suddenly deny coverage, that bill falls to you.
That’s not fair. And that’s why we don’t participate with insurance companies.
This model lets us give you high-quality, one-on-one care without restriction. You pay for what you need, and only for what you need, without any hidden bills. Yay!
We offer competitive pricing and operate on a sliding scale when needed. We do not ever want payment to be a reason someone is unable to receive the care that they need.
-
Nope! In NC, PT is direct - access which means you can access a Doctor of Physical Therapy without needing to see another provider first or obtaining a referral. We are autonomous providers, and have the necessary training to be able to screen you for red flag signs or symptoms and for conditions outside of our scope of practice - and to refer you appropriately if needed.
The only time people need a referral is when their insurance company requires it for reimbursement. Luckily, we do not participate with insurance companies, so this is not necessary.
-
Yes, you sure can.
-
Because we do not participate in Medicare (which is a federal government program), and because Medicare has rules about this, we are unfortunately not able to see you for PT services that Medicare covers for.
That said, we ARE allowed to see you for services that Medicare does NOT cover, including health and wellness based services, maintenance programs, dry needling, and others. E-mail or call us for more details / questions about how we are able to help you.
-
Yes! The beauty of this model is that we can do both. We can make a plan that fits your needs, because in real life, rehab and performance should operate within the same realm - and at Beacon, they do!
